Attractive Latina immigrant Drina (Paula Garcés) takes a job as a live-in maid at the home of the Crawfords (Bill Camp, Annabella Sciorra), a well-to-do New York family. Drina’s duties include taking care of their pampered son Brandon (Philip Ettinger), but there are some tasks that weren’t listed in the original application. The simple theme frequently appears in the score, creating a false sense of security about the proceedings and even hinting at ulterior motives for the main heroine. The music grows more intense and darker as the innocent immigrant gets more entangled in the dark mysteries of the New York elite, this transformation works as masterfully in the film as it does on the album.
