Point of Change (Stephen Warbeck/Lewis Morison)

Original score from the 2024 documentary feature film directed by Rebecca Coley, produced by Nias Film, Enriched Media Group and Red Squirrel Studios, released by Madman Films/Garage (Australia).

THE STORY: Stumbling across the perfect wave, two surfers start a chain reaction of unintended consequences. Perfection comes at a cost.

THE SCORE: The Point of Change soundtrack traces the history of Nias, where different worlds collide and leave a profound mark on one another. The music finds a shared language to engage with Rebecca Coley’s film – a language shaped by place, by beauty and destruction, and by the powerful passage of time. Indonesian vocals, percussion, and flutes form the heartbeat of the score, grounding it in the island’s spiritual and cultural roots. Handpans and thumb pianos were woven throughout to echo the island’s sense of ritual and natural beauty, creating textures that feel both ancient and immediate. These elements blend with Western instrumentation and modern sonic palettes, reflecting how local traditions were transformed as outside influences took hold. Working collaboratively, and inviting other musicians to contribute their own tactile energy, the score grew into something layered and alive – a meeting point of cultures, timbres, and eras.” – Stephen Warbeck & Lewis Morison
