Something to highlight the tension as well as the comedy. He wanted something unique and colorful with a jazz feel. I think this was the first film scoring gig where I was able to be more open about my jazz background! I put together a killer rhythm section of Spencer Cohen on drums and Gary Wicks on double bass. I&#8217;d find myself writing these quite detailed cues, lots of layers and melodies using baritone sax, harp and vibes. Then I&#8217;d smash them to pieces and have Spence and Gary feature melodically, with those other instruments playing more of a supporting role.
