Although I had previously worked on documentaries and commercials, this was a completely new experience. I met the director, Johannes Grenzfurthner, in Austria, and we immediately connected on a creative level. Not long after meeting, he asked me to compose the score, and there was never any real doubt about collaborating. What made the process unique was the artistic freedom he gave me. Aside from requesting a continuous dark undertone throughout the film and a Hebrew version of &#8216;Die Gedanken sind frei&#8217; for the ending, he allowed me to interpret the rest entirely in my own way. I simply watched the film, felt inspired, and composed intuitively. The collaboration was smooth and natural, with only minor adjustments along the way. The soundtrack differs from my usual piano-based work. Instead, I experimented with sounds, including my voice, toy instruments, and unconventional effects like blowing into wine bottles, combined with orchestral elements. Blending neo-classical, jazz and electronic elements, his music transcends genre boundaries while remaining deeply emotional and cinematic. Trained as a jazz pianist at the conservatory, Pieter developed a strong foundation in improvisation and experimentation.
