BLOODRAYNE II: DELIVERANCE (Jessica de Rooij) / Music2Gold Records
Young composer Jessica de Rooij has quickly emerged as a truly interesting
voice in film music. This year, she is getting her big break-thruogh with
the music for three major features from German filmmaker Uwe Boll: the
political drama comedy "Postal", the horror film "Seed" - and the sequel to
the 2005 vampire flick "Bloodrayne". The stylish music for "BloodRayne II:
Deliverance", starring Natassia Malthe, Zack Ward and Brendan Fletcher,
fuses two major elements: the Morricone-influenced western style and the big
epic orchestral sound. De Rooij is no stranger to the big orchestra, having
written a large symphonic score for "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon
Siege Tale" together with Henning Lohner. The filmmusicdownloads.com release
of the "BloodRayne II: Deliverance" score album from Music2Gold Records
co-incides with the US DVD release of the film on September 18, 2007. It
features the music in its chronological order, as heard in the film.

STREET THIEF (Phirefones) / Film Music Downloads
When composing the music for the award-winning independent thriller "Street
Thief", Berlin-based film music collective Phirefones created a strikingly
original score for an equally original film. Earning director Malik Bader
the Chicago Award at the Chiacgo International Film Festival, and the
'Cinema of the Future Award' at the Buenos Aires International Festival of
Independent Cinema, "Street Thief" is a film where "the suspense is greatly
compounded by the mystery of whether or not the film is an actual
documentary or a fictional feature", according to Variety. The film follows
a thief on his routine of scouting locations and prepping for his heists,
accompanied by a musical score that is primarily atmospheric, but also often
providing a pulse to the images with rhythms that fit the urban setting like
a glove. On its own, the "Street Thief" soundtrack stands as a dark
listening experience that will attract fans of inventive electronica and
lo-fi aficionados.

THE LAST WINTER (Jeff Grace/Anton Sanko) / MovieScore Media
"The Last Winter" takes place in the Arctic region of Northern Alaska where
an oil company's team is drawn into a world of disorientation and mysterious
fear following the death of one of the members. "The Last Winter" is written
and directed by horror genre specialist Larry Fessenden, who has been acting
in films such as "Headspace" and "The Roost" (both soundtracks available for
download here on Film Music Downloads), and produced genre titles such as
"Zombie Honeymoon" and "The Off Season." "The Last Win" stars Golden Globe
Award-winning actor Ron Perlman ("Hellboy," "Alien: Resurrection," "The Name
of the Rose"), Kevin Corrigan ("The Departed," "Goodfellas," "True
Romance"), James LeGros ("Enemy of the State," "Zodiac," "Psycho") and
Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights"). The music for "The Last Winter" is
special in that it actually features two original scores by different
composers - one orchestral and one electronic. "I invited two different
composers to illuminate different aspects of the story: Anton Sanko I wanted
to provide an ambient score to suggest the encroaching mental stress the
characters are going through. Jeff Grace I wanted to provide a more
romanticized interpretation of the story, to track the emotional aspect of
the characters' journey," explains director Larry Fessenden. MovieScore
Media reunites with composer Jeff Grace, whose much acclaimed score for the
independent horror film The Roost was released by the label last year. It
was hailed as "one of the most satisfying and memorable horror scores of the
past few years" by noted web site soundtrack.net. Jeff Grace has quickly
emerged as a truly original and very interesting new voice in the film music
business. With "The Last Winter" he returns to the bold avant garde
experimentalism of "The Roost," but he also showcases another side of
himself: a restrained beauty rooted in traditional harmony and
instrumentation, heard in the main theme of the film. The electronic score
by Anton Sanko provides an eerie contrast to Jeff's music and as a whole,
"The Last Winter" is, in terms of its musical approach, one of the most
original horror films in recent years.

SYMPHONIC ELECTRONIC: THE FILM MUSIC OF ERIK DESIDERIO / Caffeine King
Music
This collection of themes and score cues from various short films scored by
up and coming composer Erik Desiderio offers an entertaining and impressive
overview of the composer's talents. Reflecting the eclectic selection on
this album, the title is "Symphonic Electronic: The Film Music of Erik
Desiderio", ranging from the quirky lo-fi beats of "Overtime", via the eerie
music box themes of "Delirium" and the unusual combination of epic orchestra
and banjo (!) in "Rusty Forkblade" to the elegant lightness of "And So Life
Goes On".

CARNAVAL DE SODOMA (David Mansfield) / Film Music Downloads
Veteran film composer David Mansfield ("Heaven's Gate", "Desperate Hours",
"Transamerica") and Mexican auteur Arturo Ripstein form one of the most
interesting composer/director relationships in modern cinema. "Carnaval de
Sodoma" is their latest film together, and David's music ranges from Nino
Rota-inspired waltzes to infectious Bee Gees pastisches and some highly
original writing for counter-tenor (Benjamin Marcantoni) and singing saw!
This is not your typical film score - it is very special music written for a
very special director who has been nominated to the Golden Palm Award in
Cannes three times. "Carnaval de Sodoma" tells the story about residents of
a bordello who prepares an annual carnival - accompanied by David
Mansfield's lovingly burlesque music.

THE TOYBOX (Miguel d¹Oliveira) / Film Music Downloads
Miguel d'Oliveira's score for the acclaimed horror film "The Toybox" -
directed by Paolo Sedazzari and winner of Best Foreign Film Award at the
Valley International Film Festival, North Hollywood, USA, and winner of
"Best Film" at Festival of Fantastic Films, Manchester, UK - is a little
musical miracle. Created on a shoestring budget, with the composer
performing twelve different instruments and singing, the inventive score is
a frighteningly moody and interesting listening experience. DVD Magazine
certainly was right when they wrote that "the film's score by Miguel
D'Oliveira is very impressive" in their review of "The Toybox". Here is your
opportunity to enjoy the unique instrumental score for the film!

THE LEGEND TRIP (Leigh Phillips) / Film Music Downloads
Award-winning composer Leigh Phillips has crafted a dark and aggressive
semi-orchestral score for "The Legend Trip", a low budget horror film
directed by Jason Satterfield who tells the story about a local legend which
turns into a horrifying reality for a group of young grad students seeking
to debunk a Wisconsin haunted house. Phillips score pays homage to many
classic film composer, in particular Jerry Goldsmith whose inventive music
for the "Twilight Zone" is reflected in the score for "The Legend Trip" in a
very affectionate way.

MEDIEVIL: RESURRECTION (Bob & Barn) / Bob & Barn
Back in 1998 Bob and Barn had never written what was effectively a 'film
score for a game', so it was an interesting challenge both artistically and
technically. The music that came out of the prequels was an eclectic hybrid
of film music by Danny Elfman, John Williams and Wojcech Kilar, with a
healthy dose of '70s horror and a tinge of gothic humour. The fundamental
difference between the score to the prequels and the latest incarnation is
that the previous titles were scored using electronics to mimic the sounds
of an orchestra, whereas this version finally allowed Bob and Barn to
realise their musical ideas without any synthesised inhibitions using the
sound of a mighty 86 part orchestra and 48 piece choir. They once again
journeyed to Prague to re-assemble the "Primal" dream team of producer and
fixer James Fitzpatrick, orchestrator and conductor Nic Raine, engineer Jan
Holzner, the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, and Gareth
Williams as music editor and mastering engineer. The gang was back together
two years after Primal, producing a ground-breaking, live orchestral score
for PSP. The music is a combination of refined tracks from the prequels and
a whole heap of new ones. Bob and Barn get more emails requesting a
soundtrack to MediEvil than any others; they hope it's been worth the wait.

PRIMAL (Bob & Barn) / Bob & Barn
The score from the Sony Playstation game "Primal" is divided into five
sections each with its own unique musical identity; from the raw violent
sound of Solum, the tranquil beauty of Aquis, the Russian / French sounding
Aetha, the Egyptian laced Volca all wrapped up in the serene thematic ideas
of the main characters Jen & Scree found in Nexus, there is something for
everyone! The music was performed by the 77 piece City of Prague
Philharmonic Orchestra and 32 part chorus. Soloists include the incredible
voice of Soprano Michaela Srumora, Jaraslava Eliasova on Piano & Celeste and
Pavel Becherovka on Alto Flute. The score was orchestrated and conducted by
Nic Raine and produced by James Fitzpatrick (both film score veterans with
at least 20 years experience behind them!). The album contains 20 tracks
with a running time of 61:36. So, what does it sound like? Well, if you like
big Hollywood epic fantasy soundtracks, this is your cup of tea. If you like
romantic orchestral music, this is right up your street, but don't take our
words for it, have a listen to the mp3s and judge for yourself.

SKINWALKERS (Andrew Lockington) / MovieScore Media
The score for Skinwalkers - a werewolf movie starring Jason Behr, Elias
Koteas and Rhona Mitra - is a melange of both traditional orchestral
elements and digitally manipulated modern and medieval instruments. Composer
Andrew Lockington ("Saint Ralph") used his research on Japanese and Sudanese
percussion to create rhythmic structures on which much of the orchestral
movement is based. In addition, the Japanese percussion influence is
evidenced by Taiko drums which can be heard cementing the beat structure in
many places throughout the score. Also included in the film and on the
soundtrack album is the metal song "Destitutorial" by Braintoy, a band which
is based in Toronto, Canada - just like Andrew Lockington.

ROCK HAVEN (Jack Curtis Dubowsky) / De Stijl Music
Composer Jack Curtis Dubowsky takes us on a deeply emotional ride with his
intimate and honest score for the independent drama "Rock Haven", directed
by David Lewis and distributed by TLA Releasing. The film recently had its
world premiere at Frameline in June and will tour the festival circuit.
Dubowsky, who has a versatile background working for composers such as Paul
Chihara and Elliot Goldenthal and groups like Kiss and Megadeth, has crafted
a beautiful acoustic score with emphasis on a small string ensemble and
woodwind solos. A score that goes right into your heart!

S.O.S. LOVE (Robert Gulya) / Inez Records
"S.O.S. Love" is a romantic comedy which is the most succesful film of the
year in Hungary, and the entertaining music is written by one of the
country's most promising young composers, Robert Gulya. He has written
orchestral scores for several Hollywood features, including the thriller
"The Boy Who Cried Bitch", the western "Truce" and the upcoming sci-fi film
"Atom Nine". The music for "S.O.S. Love" is performed by the Budapest
Symphony Orchestra and features an exciting mix of elegant and laid-back
comedy scoring, sunny romantic themes and some hip suspense writing. Enjoy!

EXPRESSING THE INEXPRESSIBLE (Douglas Romayne) / Zippers and Rivets
Composer Douglas Romayne: "I've been privileged early in my career to work
with a number of talented, emerging filmmakers. Their films have afforded me
the opportunity to work in a wide range of genres, styles and scoring
techniques. The music on this album represents the results of these
collaborations: from the elegiac Americana of Freedomland, to the magical
and quirky fairy-tale character of Rocketboy, to the propulsive action and
ominous threat of Entity: Nine, to the hushed, enveloping textures of
Shelter. Ultimately, these varied approaches and styles serve story, be it
the life-long lovers in Sunday Paper, a mother and daughter struggling to
move beyond tragedy in The Truth About Faces, an ambitious businessman
losing his family in Antebody, or sisters who've made a devastating
discovery in Beyond the Silence. For me, film music works best when it is
utilized to express the unseen, the unsaid, the inexpressible. This has been
the fun challenge of these films, and if the filmmaker's comments on my
scores are any indication, there's been some measure of success. On my
website can be found additional thoughts about each of the films presented
here and the process the directors and I went through to create the score.
Enjoy!" - "After silence, that which comes closest to expressing the
inexpressible, is music." - Aldous Huxley
