THE STORY: The Spanish National water-polo team hires that toughest world trainer looking for win the gold medal in the Olympic Games of Barcelona 92.
THE SCORE: Composer Óscar Araujo transports his talents of scoring the adventures of video game heroes to follow the exploits of real life heroes – the Spanish water polo team of 1992. His hybrid scoring captures the majesty and the scope of the international event (“Hello Olympics”, “Press Popovich”), while more intimate, tension filled cues focus on the nail-biting tension of the water polo games – since these games are played to the last second, a clock motive counts down the time until history is made (“A Dream Begins”, “Last Elimination”). When rounded out with the theme for camaraderie for the team (“Within the Team”), Araujo’s score ranks as a modern sport scoring success – written for a sport that rarely gets this kind of treatment.
THE COMPOSER: Spanish composer Óscar Araujo has long been associated with the Castlevania video game franchise, including Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (2010) and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (2014). His feature film credits include El Cid: La leyenda (2003), an adaptation of the classic story co-composed with Zacarías M. de la Riva as well as crime filme Carne de neón (2010). His score for 42 segundos marks his first collaboration with MovieScore Media.
