THE STORY: A dinosaur goes on an adventure to save his parents who have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Alongside a wizard and two quirky scientists, he encounters fantastical creatures and amazing places along the way.

THE SCORE: “The Diplodocus movie, much like The Witcher 3, was a dream-come-true project. It gave me the chance to write music for a story I loved as a child. In many ways, it felt like composing a musical letter from the adult Mikolai to my younger self. Reading comic books was a magical experience for me back then—especially ones as vibrant and uniquely designed as Diplodocus. Those colors and shapes stood out even more in contrast to the drab, grey reality of life in Poland during and just after Communism. They brought a spark of imagination to a world that often felt colorless. I’m part of a large community of people who feel deeply grateful to the creators of this beautiful film. To be invited to write the score—and in doing so, to become a filmmaker myself—was truly an honor. The movie invited me to paint with the full palette of the orchestra, enhanced with a strong touch of analog synthesizers—an unmistakable echo of the 1980s. I own about twelve of these synths, and I call them my pets. Each has its own character and quirks, and it was a joy to unleash their voices onto the Diplodocus score. I hope listeners can recognize the two melodic themes woven throughout the soundtrack. One theme captures the spirit of adventure and the joy of discovery. The other is more melancholic, reflecting the moments when Diplodocus experiences doubt—especially in the face of adults who fail to live up to his hopes. I’m incredibly grateful that I had the chance to record the music with a live orchestra—something many composers dream of. I wish for more projects like this in the future.” – Mikolai Stroinski

THE COMPOSER: Multi award-winning composer Mikolai Stroinski was born in Kenya, raised in Poland, and lives and writes music in Los Angeles. Magna cum laude graduate of Karol Szymanowski Music Academy and summa cum laude graduate of Berklee College of Music (Outstanding Achievement in Film Scoring), Mikolai’s film scores include Poland’s first full-length animation feature Diplodocus, Netflix’s animated war drama series The Liberator, the HBO production Bez Tajemnic (In Treatment), as well as Paradoks and Zbrodnia. In addition to his film and TV music, Stroinski is acclaimed for his work in video games, scoring several entries of CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher fantasy RPG series. One of his most challenging and provocative scores for a video game, Metamorphosis, received the Society of Composers and Lyricists’ Award for Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media.
