“A pleasantly surprising, quirky little score. The performance by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra is rich and vivacious, and Hancock knows how to write music that really lives and breathes.” (Movie Music Mania)

The Last Belle (Stuart Hancock)

Original score from the 2011 animated short film directed by Neil Boyle, featuring the voices of Sienna Guillory, Amanda Donohoe and Colin McFarlane.

THE STORY: A mute boy is trapped in his apartment with a sinister monster when he makes a wish to fulfill his heart’s greatest desire.

THE SCORE: Performed by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, The Last Belle is a rich, colourful and versatile score which gives you an emotional rollercoaster in just 14 minutes. The music follows the two parallel storylines, alternating between a hopeless romantic (“I’ve Got Myself a Date!”, “Giddy Rosie”, “Finding Love in London”) and a carnivalesque rush which sounds like the most insane moments of Danny Elfman’s career (“Going Down the Tubes”, “Rushing to Ripov’s” ). The score recently won the Gold Medal at the prestigious Park City Film Music Festival, Utah.

THE COMPOSER: Stuart Hancock is a British composer, known for his music for the BBC fantasy drama Atlantis, the Channel 4’s animated TV special We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and the Netflix comedy-horror Crazyhead. Stuart won an Ivors Classical Award in 2015 for his large-scale concert work Snapshot Songs, and has garnered considerable industry recognition for his commercial, documentary, TV and film music, including multiple Jerry Goldsmith Awards. Stuart, who studied at the London College of Music, maintains a varied composing career across all media. Raptures, his debut album of concert works, recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra, was released in 2019.
