*“A very fine album, one of 2014’s strongest. Compositionally it is very
strong and at its core is a very clearly-told emotional dramatic story –
fans of Ennio Morricone and John Williams will find much to enjoy…
bolstered further by the crystal-clear recording and great performance by
orchestra and choir.”* (Movie Wave <http://www.movie-wave.net/automata/>)

*“Zacarias M. de la Riva has created something magical and simply visceral…
a meandering and touchingly powerful score that puts the composers name
firmly up on the billboard where it rightly deserves to be.”* (The
Passionata Project
<http://www.thepassionataproject.com/#!AUTOMATA-Zacarias-M-de-la-Riva/cct2/AF88E371-6011-420C-BF33-34F96198150E>
)

*“We should definitely watch Zacarías M. de da Riva’ career very closely
from now on. Wonderful surprise treat.”* (Films on Wax
<http://www.filmsonwax.co.uk/automata/>)

*“Part beautiful choral work, part orchestrated classical music, Zacarías
M. de la Riva’s score for Automata should definitely be at the top of every
soundtrack collector’s essential purchase list. This is more than a score
for a sci-fi movie; this is a beautiful piece of modern classical music in
its own right.” *(Sci-Fi Online
<http://www.sci-fi-online.com/00_revs/r2014/music/14-10-21_automata.html>)

*“The music by Zacarías M. De la Riva is classy and sophisticated, giving
this an almost art-house style vibe…”*(JoBlo.com)

*“**De la Riva’s score evokes pristine cleanliness while at the same time,
unsanitary primitivism. It conjures up heaven along with hell and is as
equally defeatist as it is inspirational.”* (Badass Digest)

*“The film also boasts of a heart wrenching background score which is
potent in its reach. How I wished it to continue for all the way to
eternity every-time it started playing.”* (Ambar’s Reviews
<https://aambar.wordpress.com/2014/10/19/automata2014/>)

MovieScore Media releases Zacarías M. de da Riva’s soundtrack for *Automata*,
the new sci-fi thriller starring Antonio Banderas, recently hailed by
reviewers as “a strikingly slick and intriguing sci-fi thriller” (Screen
Daily), “freaking magnificent” (Ain’t It Cool News), “surreal science
fiction at its best” (Twitch), “smart sci-fi done on a large canvas”
(Joblo) and considered a film which is “going to be looked at as a classic
of the genre” (Films.com). MovieScore Media’s release of the score album
co-incides with the US theatrical release of the film (courtesy of
Millennium Films) on October 10, 2014.

Antonio Banderas plays the role of Jacq Vaucan, a disillusioned insurance
agent of ROC robotics corporation whose job involves the investigation of
manipulated robots. Although it seems like another routine case at first,
Vaucan soon realizes that his latest mission will have more profound
effects on the future of humanity… Directed and co-written by Spanish
filmmaker Gabe Ibáñez (*Hierro*), the dystopian film also features the
talents of Dylan McDermott, Melanie Griffith and Javier Bardem in a cameo
appearance as a voice of a robot.

The score for *Automata* was written by Zacarías M. de la Riva, one of the
most versatile talents of the Spanish film music scene. A former student of
telecommunication who then enrolled to the Berklee College of Music to
study film music, de la Riva has already proven himself to be talented in
every genre he’s come across. Previous de la Riva scores issued by
MovieScore Media include the prior Gabe Ibáñez collaboration *Hierro *(2009),
the cinema-themed murder mystery *Imago Mortis *(2009), and the Indiana
Jones-inspired animated adventure *Tad, The Lost Explorer*(2011).

Though it is set in the future overrun with robots, *Automata*features a
rich, orchestral score with a haunting choir lending an epic quality to the
story. As the composer explains: ”The movie moves constantly between two
different worlds. The world of the sci-fi thriller and the world of the
philosophical and metaphysical. The first one deals with Jacq Vaucan’s
investigation of malfunctioning robots, the second one deals with the
essence of the being and his reality, human or robotic. Music had to
resolute this dichotomy, make the coexistence of this two different worlds
possible.”

The score features the The Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish
choir Johannebergs Vokalensemble which was contracted for the film by
MovieScore Media’s Mikael Carlsson.

*#1 on Mundo BSO’s score ranking for September 2014*

*“This is a in its whole an overwhelming work, which takes full advantage
of the choirs and has several epic, bombastic and grandiloquent themes, in
nothing artificial, and that also includeslyrical melodies, refined and
emotional.” *(Mundo BSO

Produced by Drakonia, *Coliseum *is a spectacular show which recreates the
deadly games of Ancient Rome in a live movie experience. The production
follows the adventures of Marcus Octavius Atellus, the legatus of Rome who
has been sentenced to fight as a gladiator in the Coliseum to recover his
freedom; he must also survive the machinations of his nemesis Dominicianus,
the evil brother of the Titus who plans on becoming the emperor. Featuring
more than 100 actors, horses, exotic dancers, fire stunts and chariot
races, the show features such set pieces as the Battle of Hispania, a
“David and Goliath” duel with Porphy rion the Giant and a tender romantic
subplot between Marcus and his one true love, Cleopatra.

Born in Castelló d’Empúries in 1980, Spanish composer Marc Timón Barceló
had shown great talent and creativity at an early age. He first graduated
in journalism before getting his degree in composition from the prestigious
ESMUC. His most notable film credits include horror movies like
*Witches *(2010)
and *El arbol sin sombra *(2013) or the animated children’s movie *The
Little Wizard*(2013) which marked the composer’s CD soundtrack debut at
MovieScore Media.

“You can’t create ‘Roman’ music without Miklós Rózsa (*Ben-Hur*) or Alex
North (*Cleopatra*),” explains the composer “so I studied their use of
brass, how they orchestrated, how they recreated the sound of archaic days.
Then I looked at our present with a focus on Hans Zimmer (Gladiator) – from
him, I learned about orchestral textures, powerful ostinati and thunderous
war percussion. I also ttied to mix the two fundamentally different ways of
understanding film music in one soundtrack. While we tend to look at John
Williams and Hans Zimmer as opposites, I always thought it would be
possible to do a score with both styles co-existing: on one hand we’d have
melodies and leitmotifs, on the other we’d have big percussion, textural
atmosphere and loops.”

The Maid's Room (Arturo
Rodriguez)*http://moviescoremedia.com/screamworks/2014/10/21/the-maids-room-arturo-rodriguez/

Screamworks Records gives the digital premiere of Arturo Rodríguez’s *The
Maid’s Room*, previously issued on CD by Kronos Records. Written and
directed by Michael Walker, *The Maid’s Room *is a physiological thriller
set in the affluent area of Long Island. Attractive Latina immigrant Drina
(Paula Garcés) takes a job as a live-in maid at the home of the Crawfords
(Bill Camp, Annabella Sciorra), a well-to-do New York family. Drina’s
duties include taking care of their pampered son Brandon (Philip Ettinger),
but there are some tasks that weren’t listed in the original application.
When Drina notices a new damage on Brandon’s car, then later reads about a
fatal hit-and-run accident, she puts the two things together…

The dark and mysterious musical score is provided by Mexican composer
Arturo Rodríguez. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Rodríguez’s musical studies
include the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Texas Christian University
and Butler University. He is a Sundance Music Lab Composer Fellow (2010)
and has been a participant for the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop (2003) and
the 11th New York University Composers Seminar (2003). He has worked as an
orchestrator with composers like Osvaldo Golijov and Stewart Copeland; he
participated in the scores of *Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom
Cry *(2013), *Elemental* (2012),*Zipper *(2014) and Francis Ford Coppola’s
*Twixt* (2011).

The score is anchored by Drina’s Theme, a motive featuring a discrete piano
solo and woodwinds, accompanied by the occasional harp and later, a strings
section. The simple theme frequently appears in the score, creating a false
sense of security about the proceedings and even hinting at ulterior
motives for the main heroine. The music grows more intense and darker as
the innocent immigrant gets more entangled in the dark mysteries of the New
York elite, this transformation works as masterfully in the film as it does
on the album. Following the prior CD release by Kronos Records, Arturo
Rodríguez’s first commercially released score is finally available on
digital platforms.

[Rec]4 (Arnau Bataller)

Coinciding with the film’s October 31 premiere in Spain, Screamworks
[Rec]ords proudly presents the original soundtrack for last chapter of the
popular *[REC]* franchise: *[REC]4*. Written and directed by Jaume
Balagueró and Paco Plaza, the *[REC]*films (mostly) follow the adventures
of television reporter Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) who accidentally
comes across a story about an infection that turns people into zombies.
Hailed as a groundbreaking experiment with the first person / found footage
format, the series now comes to a close with the final chapter on Ángela’s
battle with the disease. *[REC] 4* has already been announced for a
November 12 premiere in France and will get a release in the US by Magnet
Releasing.

*[REC] 4 *composer Arnau Bataller originally studied to play the violin and
got a degree on the instrument in 1998 – then he decided to specialize in
film music, studying the art form at the prestigious University of Southern
California. Since graduating in 2002, Arnau has worked on countless
American and Spanish projects. Some of his most notable works include José
Luis Alemán’s H.P. Lovecraft-inspired horror films *The Valdemar Legacy *(2010)
and *The Valdemar Legacy II: The Forbidden Shadow *(2010), the latter of
which is available from MovieScore Media. His recent score for Julio
Martí’s *The Brotherhood *(2014) is available from Screamworks Records,
just like the music from*[REC]3: Genesis*.

Though he originally worked on *[REC]3 *as an orchestrator Bataller’s score
for the last episode of the franchise builds upon elements of the story
that transpired in the second installment. The key suspense theme (heard in
tracks like ‘The Medeiros Girl’ and ‘Inside the House’) is reserved for
moments of great revelations about the infection and Ángela’s
transformation into a real heroine. Recorded in Bratislava and mixed with
electronic elements created by the composer himself, *[REC]4* is an
exciting, suspenseful and sometimes operatic experience that is a welcome
companion to the music of *[REC]3*.
