Reviews
“Hancock goes a little more electronic and dips his toe into upbeat, funky, Rock based themes. It’s a score that works well for the series it was composed for, and it’s also an interesting (if a little off the wall) soundtrack in its own right.” (Review Graveyard)
Crazyhead (Stuart Hancock)
Original score from the 2016 horror TV mini-series directed by Al Mackay and Declan O’Dwyer, starring Cara Theobold, Susan Wokoma and Tony Curran, produced by Urban Myth Films and released by Netflix (USA), Channel 4 (UK) and Studiocanal (France).
THE STORY: Amy and Raquel attempt to navigate their way through the choppy waters of their early twenties whilst simultaneously kicking ass on some seriously gnarly demons. What could possibly go wrong?
THE SCORE: “As a composer, scoring Crazyhead was a new stylistic departure for me. I had previously worked with the team at Urban Myth Films to create the soundtrack for Atlantis, which had an epic orchestral sound, whereas Crazyhead called for a grungy, more electronic sound world with a nod to the classic retro horror scores of the likes of John Carpenter. It was a whole lot of fun to explore this style, and to contrast subtle emotional underscoring with a bold, eyeballs-out brutality for the action and horror.” – Stuart Hancock
THE COMPOSER: Stuart Hancock is a British composer, known for his music for the BBC fantasy drama Atlantis, the Channel 4’s animated TV special We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and the Netflix comedy-horror Crazyhead. Stuart won an Ivors Classical Award in 2015 for his large-scale concert work Snapshot Songs, and has garnered considerable industry recognition for his commercial, documentary, TV and film music, including multiple Jerry Goldsmith Awards. Stuart, who studied at the London College of Music, maintains a varied composing career across all media. Raptures, his debut album of concert works, recorded with the BBC Concert Orchestra, was released in 2019.
