Original score from the 2025 drama feature film directed by Gabriel Ramos, starring Vico Escorcia, Gabriela de la Garza and Guillermo Alonso, produced by Benuca Films.

THE STORY: A beautiful college student supports her family by selling flowers, but her looks attract unwanted attention. Between her jealous boyfriend and a persistent customer’s advances, her life takes a dark turn.

THE SCORE: “This marks my first collaboration with director Gabriel Ramos, who also wrote and edited the film. The film called for a romantic and sometimes dramatic piano score with orchestral elements accompanying throughout. The main theme is heard on the first track of the album, a variation on the first four notes of the famous Gregorian chant Dies Irae, as the movie opens with dead in the air and lingers until the end of the film. Gabriel had asked me for three main motivic and melodic ideas that could be used in their original format or as variations throughout the film: the ‘dead’ motif, a ‘hope’ motif, as heard on track 3 with Rosa’s theme, and also on tracks like ‘Opportunity’, ‘Back to School’, and ‘Into the Light’. A third recurring motif was created for Rosa’s father that also works as the ‘sadness’ theme in some cases. I also created a love theme that can be heard in tracks like ‘Promises’ and ‘With All My Heart’. All themes come together in the track ‘Loss and Grief’, which accompanies the tragic final scene of the film. The music was performed by Orquesta Filarmónica del Desierto which is based in Saltillo, Coahuila, México, where the movie was filmed. I perform all the piano solos. The song ‘Recuerdos’ was composed in collaboration with Gabriel and his lyricists. I produced the track both in LA and México. We can hear Gabriel playing guitar on this track while his daughters are the main singers. After composing and recording this soundtrack and once I started working with MovieScore Media on the release of this album I realized that I was missing a more developed version of two of the main themes, so I composed and performed ‘Main Theme from El Desaire’ and ‘Rosa’s Theme’ especially for this release. It was truly a pleasure to work in this film produced in its entirety in the Northern México, which is the region where I was born. – Arturo Rodriguez

THE COMPOSER: Arturo Rodríguez is a Mexican-born composer, conductor and pianist based in Los Angeles. Mainly a composer for the large symphony orchestra his compositions range from concert music, ballet, to film, animation, video games and special events. He has composed works by commission for Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops and served as assistant conductor for maestro John Williams at Tanglewood’s Film Music Night during the summer of 2011. He worked closely with Francis Ford Coppola conducting Osvaldo Golijov’s soundtrack for Megalopolis and his conducting work can be heard in the original soundtrack recordings of blockbusters such as Twisters, It Chapter Two and Furious 7. As an orchestrator his work can be heard in the new miniseries The House of Spirits, the documentary Free Solo and movies like Lights Out. In the concert world he has collaborated with conductors like Gustavo Dudamel creating orchestral arrangements and reconstructions of symphonic works for special Day of the Dead and Mexican Film Music Night concerts for the LA Phil. Arturo was born in Monterrey, México where he began his musical studies at the age of eight. He studied piano and conducting in Texas Christian University and Butler University in Indianapolis. He studied film music composition with John Corigliano at the Aspen Music Festival in 2001 and at the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Hollywood in 2003. He was a composer fellow at the Sundance Film Music Institute in 2010. Arturo was the recipient of the Mozart Medal awarded in México City by the Austrian Embassy in 1996.
