Original score from the 2022 horror thriller feature film directed by Greg Pritikin, starring John Magaro, Kat Cunning and Rae Dawn Chong, produced by Paris Film and Rivulet Films, released by Blue Fox Entertainment (USA) and Lighthouse Home Entertainment (Germany).

THE STORY: Newlyweds move into their dream home where they discover a collection of 100-year-old letters from a young woman who committed suicide after being abandoned by the owner of the home.

THE SCORE: “It was a thrill when I heard that director Greg Pritikin wanted a score inspired by the classic suspense thrillers with (and I quote Greg) the “Rodríguez” element in every track that I immediately said ‘yes’ to the challenge. The result was a darkly romantic, almost gothic main theme. I learned a lot from Greg about rhythm, anticipation and surprise while working closely with him on every cue for this film (for which he also wrote the script) and I particularly enjoyed composing the hair-raising tracks like ‘Murder’ and ‘Curiosity and Final Encounter’ which were also great fun to orchestrate. The main theme is presented in the ‘Main Title’ sequence by the strings and harpsichord accompanied by bass clarinets. A tragic love theme that’s also associated with the ‘mystery’ woman of the story can be heard on the second track ‘Close Encounter’. ‘The Picture’ and ‘Driving – Writing – Stalking’ set the tone for the suspense style of the music and will be recurring throughout the story. More ‘Looking for the Truth’ introduces a romantic saxophone solo associated with another female character. All the aforementioned themes develop as the story unfolds and it’s hard to describe them without spoiling the movie which I invite you to watch. I can only say that the structure of each cue is pointing towards the final climax heard on ‘Curiosity and Final Encounter’ and resolve on the track ‘And in This House We Shall Dwell Forever’. I composed a suite based on all the themes which I was able to further develop and can be heard in the End Credits track. The suite you will hear in this album is a longer version than the one found in the end credits of the
film. I am particularly fond of this soundtrack because it allowed me to explore a darker side of my music and also because it was recorded during the last months of confinement during the Pandemic. The score was recorded live at Studio 13 in México City with only the allowed number of musicians in each of the separate rooms and all at a safe distance from each other. I was conducting in front of the string section and there was a videocamera pointed at me. Harp, woodwinds and brass were all being recorded simultaneously while they were looking at me conducting through monitors in each of their own separate rooms. Francisco Aguilera, who designed the recording plan at Estudio 13 and Daniel Dávila who mixed the score where the key elements for getting this soundtrack to sound like we were all performing in the same room.” – Arturo Rodriguez

THE COMPOSER: Arturo Rodríguez is a Mexican-born composer, conductor and pianist based in Los Angeles. Mainly a composer for the large symphony orchestra his compositions range from concert music, ballet, to film, animation, video games and special events. He has composed works by commission for Keith Lockhart and The Boston Pops and served as assistant conductor for maestro John Williams at Tanglewood’s Film Music Night during the summer of 2011. He worked closely with Francis Ford Coppola conducting Osvaldo Golijov’s soundtrack for Megalopolis and his conducting work can be heard in the original soundtrack recordings of blockbusters such as Twisters, It Chapter Two and Furious 7. As an orchestrator his work can be heard in the new miniseries The House of Spirits, the documentary Free Solo and movies like Lights Out. In the concert world he has collaborated with conductors like Gustavo Dudamel creating orchestral arrangements and reconstructions of symphonic works for special Day of the Dead and Mexican Film Music Night concerts for the LA Phil. Arturo was born in Monterrey, México where he began his musical studies at the age of eight. He studied piano and conducting in Texas Christian University and Butler University in Indianapolis. He studied film music composition with John Corigliano at the Aspen Music Festival in 2001 and at the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Hollywood in 2003. He was a composer fellow at the Sundance Film Music Institute in 2010. Arturo was the recipient of the Mozart Medal awarded in México City by the Austrian Embassy in 1996.
