Monsieur (Cyrille Aufort)
Original score from the 2026 crime thriller television film directed by Méliane Marcaggi, starring Jean-Pierre Darroussin, Jeremy Lewin and Aurélien Recoing, produced by LM les films and France Télévisions.
THE STORY: The year is 1969, on the heels of the May “68 social and sexual revolution that took Paris by storm. In America, men are landing on the moon. But in “la France profonde,” nothing has changed. Money means power and the patriarchy is alive and well. Mr. Demest owns a massive estate in Northern France and wields an iron fist in the region. One evening, Catherine, a kitchen servant, is asked to keep an eye on his 5-year-old granddaughter, Sylvie. Walking back to the house for dinner, a farm hand bullies her and the other guys all join in. Catherine gets flustered, completely turned around… and when she looks up, Sylvie has vanished. The next morning a ransom note arrives.
THE SCORE: “This TV movie is a pure crime thriller, a film noir in which the director did not want to limit the musical atmosphere to the conventions of the thriller genre alone. She also wanted to emphasize a more psychological dimension that characterizes the various protagonists: on one hand, the world of childhood; on the other, the suffering, fear, and code of silence that certain characters endure. The music therefore shifts between several styles, ranging from fantasy to crime drama, and even to a certain form of romanticism. Méliane also wanted the music to transport us into a lighthearted and pure fairy tale, hence the use of the celesta on certain tracks.” – Cyrille Aufort
THE COMPOSER: Cyrille Aufort started composing music for the theatre, short films and animation films before working extensively in the cinema. In 2012, Aufort and Gabriel Yared co-composed the score for A Royal Affair, the historical drama starring Alicia Vikander and Mads Mikkelsen. His more recent credits include Yann Gozlan’s A Perfect Man, Avi Nesher’s Past Life as well as the new Arctic-themed documentaries of Luc Jacquet: The Ice and the Sky and March of the Penguins 2: The Next Step, which won the Award for Best Original Music Emmy in the Mini Series, Film or Special category and a Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Documentary Music.
