Galaxis (Christopher L. Stone)
Original score from the 1995 sci-fi action feature film directed by William Mesa, starring Brigitte Nielsen, Richard Moll and Cindy Morgan, produced by Interlight, Morphosis Production and Prism Entertainment, released by Medusa Pictures (UK).
THE STORY: Legend says that the sacred crystal is the source for all life and was created at the beginning of time. Kyla has sought the crystal to use its powers for himself and he takes the crystal after smashing the defenders on the Planet Sintaria. But there is another identical crystal on Earth and Ladera heads there to get it before the evil Kyla.
THE SCORE: “Both Galaxis and DNA were a lot of fun to score. First, I loved working with my producers and directors on these projects; they give clear direction without micromanagement, which gave me enormous freedom to really let loose and go for it – not something you can do when the temp score is God. Although the orchestras in both cases were relatively small, there is something to be said about conducting smaller ensembles. This is especially true when writing very fast tempo music. If you listen closely to all the fast passages, they sound crisp and distinct. Had I conducted the same fast passages with large orchestras, they would have sounded thicker, not cleaner. Even when I work on high budget scores, I learned to dismiss half the orchestra when recording the crazy fast stuff… my personal favorite to compose and conduct! What can I say? I love fast cars and fast music. It’s all Rock n’ Roll!” – Christopher L. Stone

He was awarded ASCAP’s Most Performed Background Scores award six years running. His credits include over twenty feature films and over two thousand TV scores. His music has been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, and he created the world’s first orchestral score for a video game: Dragon’s Lair which is preserved in the Smithsonian Institute. Stone studied conducting in Vienna and composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. Among his most important film scoring credits are The Stupids, Phantasm II and Ticks, and TV series Walker: Texas Ranger and TaleSpin.
