“A brooding and subtle work, the musical textures, colours, and emotions being slight but at the same time affecting.” (Movie Music International)
Robin (Frank Ilfman / Antonio Tublen)
Original score from the 2017 horror feature film directed by Antonio Tublen, starring Rosalinde Mynster, Jesper Christensen and Anders Heinrichsen, produced by PingPongFilm and released by Viaplay.
THE STORY: A traumatized woman is found in a forest, claiming to have witnessed a murder. As the police investigates it they can’t find anything proving her story. The woman is convinced that she’s the next victim and starts her own investigation to figure out what really happened, trying to find the murderer before he finds her. As she comes closer, the truth is finally revealed along with severe consequences that will change everything.
THE SCORE: “I had the pleasure of meeting director and electronic musician Antonio Tublen, along with his producer Alexander Brøndsted, during my time in Sweden. Our friendship blossomed after Antonio invited me to a screening of his film LFO, leading to frequent gatherings at a film center in Malmo. These meetups were characterized by passionate discussions about films, electronic music, and the shared enjoyment of copious amounts of beer. As Antonio embarked on his next project, Robin, he envisioned a more modern classical approach for the film’s score – a composition that seamlessly integrated both classical and electronic elements. Following several viewings of the film and brainstorming sessions, we decided to employ a string octet and low winds to build tension in the classical realm, while the electronic components would delve into the psychological aspects of the characters. Our score thus exists in dual realms, with the classical elements representing Robin’s emotional world and the electronic elements delving into her darker and more terrifying experiences. Our collaborative scoring sessions in London resulted in the creation of rough mixes, to which Antonio later added an electronic instrument called the Buclah, a fascinating device from the 1960s known for generating unique undertones. This addition enhanced specific cues, allowing us to seamlessly blend the classical and electronic components, each cue dynamically reflecting Robin’s evolving journey – from the initial discovery with no memory to the unfolding revelations of her past.” – Frank Ilfman
THE COMPOSER: Frank Ilfman originally studied trombone and piano at the Jaffa Conservatorium of Music, then at the age of thirteen he was joined the Tel Aviv Dixieland Band where he played lead trombone in addition to arranging for them. His passion for film music was ignited when a visit to Bavaria Studios got him introduced to German composer Klaus Doldinger, who was scoring The Neverending Story at that time. Since starting out, Frank had scored over sixty films and television projects. His breakthrough was written for Big Bad Wolves whose music won a Saturn Award shortly after being issued by MovieScore Media. Some of Ilfman’s other recent credits include the supernatural thriller Sensoria (available from Screamworks Records), Rory’s Way (available from MovieScore Media) and the new logo of Legendary Pictures.
