THE STORY: 5-year-old Billy disappears in rural south Sweden 1984, the police investigation is inconclusive, shattering the family. 20 years later, Billy’s sister Vera, meets a hauntingly familiar young man, which forces her to unravel the truth.

THE SCORE: “The music for End of Summer was created uniquely, as it was composed before the series was even edited. Director Jens Jonsson wanted it this way, which was incredibly inspiring for me as a composer. This approach allowed for a freer creative process than is typically the case in film scoring. Jens and I drew inspiration from Hitchcock’s use of film music, and the soundtrack developed a classic film music tone, with a string quintet as its core, while incorporating layers of electronic ambience. THE COMPOSER: Double Guldbagge Award-winning composer and musician Matti Bye has established himself as one of Sweden’s most distinguished and innovative artists. Renowned for his evocative neo-classical style and distinctive improvisational approach, Bye’s career spans over three decades, during which he has composed music for over 50 film and TV productions. Bye’s album trilogy, including Bethanien (2010), This Forgotten Land, and the 2024 release Capri Clouds, showcases his mastery of processed piano music. His filmography includes critically acclaimed scores for productions such as The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, Tove, Netflix’s Young Royals, and Across the Sea. Bye’s music has also elevated silent film classics such as The Phantom Carriage, Gösta Berling’s Saga, Häxan, and the newly restored Ingmarsarvet, bridging the historical and the contemporary.
