THE STORY: The twilight of a sacred monster: Jules Maugin, an actor at the height of his glory. Under the famous personality, the big mouth, and the social shell, lies the intimate portrait of a man laid bare.

THE SCORE: “It was a great experience for me to compose the music for Jean Becker, who is now 89 years old. It tells the story of a great actor at the end of his career who is at the same time excessive, generous but also very melancholic. The music underlines this melancholy, the nostalgia of an era, of a past love. Jean wanted me to compose a theme that brings together all these elements. The theme is initiated by the piano and is taken up by the Brussels Film Orchestra.” – Frédéric Vercheval

THE COMPOSER: Frédéric Vercheval is a Belgian musician and composer. He studied at the Jazz Studio, a music school of Antwerp, Belgium. Vercheval was nominated for the Magritte Award for Best Original Score five times for his work in Diamant 13 (2009), Krach (2010), Not My Type (2014), Melody (2014) and Mothers’ Instinct (2019). In 2019, Vercheval’s score for Duelles (Mothers’ Instinct) won the World Soundtrack Awards in the Best Original Score for a Belgian Production category. Vercheval’s score for The Pact (2021), directed by Bille August, has been released by MovieScore Media.
