THE STORY: Follows a family of Syrian refugees, an English teacher from Afghanistan and a border guard. They all meet on the Polish-Belarusian border during the most recent humanitarian crisis in Belarus.

THE SCORE: “It is a great honor for me to have worked with Agnieszka Holland on the music for her film Green Border, a very strong and committed film. We approached the music in a rather symbolic way. Agnieszka wanted the music to remain sober, to not highlight suffering or violence, so we needed music that was placed in a more distant narrative space as a sort of look, of observation. I imagined a melodic motif coming from the forest played by a cello accompanied by around thirty strings which in the bass but also in the harmonics punctuate a series of repetitive chords, as if this tragedy had to constantly replay itself in front of us. A tragic and powerful song which reminds us of Agnieszka’s words: My feeling is that there is no meaning in making art if we do not struggle to question the real problems, those which are painful and sometimes insoluble, and which force us to make difficult choices.” – Frédéric Vercheval

THE COMPOSER: Frédéric Vercheval was born in Brussels, Belgium. He started to play the keyboard at the age of eight, musician, composer and arranger of film music. Frédéric has composed the soundtracks for multiple feature films and has worked with Oscar-winning directors such as Bille August and Agnieszka Holland.  He is president of the Belgian Screen Composer Guild. Frédéric Vercheval was nominated for the Magritte du cinéma for Best Original Score five times for Diamant 13, Krach, Pas son genre, Melody and Chez Nous. His soundtrack for the film Duelles won a World Soundtrack Award in 2019 and a Magritte du Cinema for best original score in 2020.
