Eleusis (Raphaël Dargent)
Original score from the 2021 horror short directed by Andzej Gavriss, starring
Ivan Dorn, Eva Bushmina and Dmitriy Ostapenko, produced by 2332 Films and released by MTS.
THE STORY: A musician in the deep state of a creative crisis is signed to a rehab program at the highly protected, isolated sanatorium that promises a lifetime warranty for endless inspiration. A bourgeois setting with welcoming stuff slowly creeps into a violent cult that tortures artists in the name of inspiration. The musician’s greatest hit becomes his darkest nightmare.
THE SCORE: “‘That’s the sound of an opera written in hell’. Andzej Gavriss’ vision for the soundtrack was as precise as it was intimidating. Composing for Eleusis was an exhausting journey as it required me to follow Ivan Dorn’s character deep into the nightmarish sanitarium of the film. This heavy and haunting music became possible thanks to the talent of soprano singer Baraka May, a Chilean chamber choir, and the recordings of many horrific orchestral textures. It felt like writing this frightening opera took a part from me in the process!” – PHAR
THE COMPOSER: Raphaël Dargent (PHAR) graduated from the USC Screen Scoring master program for which he received the Harry Warren Scholarship. He was also admitted into the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society. He has scored over 20 feature and documentary shorts in the past five years. His feature film debut, L’instant présent, directed by Florian Hessique, has been released by MovieScore Media.
