Phoenix (Patrik Andrén)
Original score from the 2018 drama feature film directed by Camilla Strøm Henriksen, starring Renate Reinsve, Sverrir Gudnason and Maria Bonnevie, produced by Hummelfilm (Norway).
THE STORY: From a young age, Jill has acted as the responsible adult in her small family. She cares for her loving but mentally unstable mother and her younger brother. The news that their estranged father will be visiting on Jill’s birthday gives the children much needed hope. When the family is struck by tragedy, Jill keeps it a secret.
THE SCORE: “The score is about the fragility and despair of growing up with a mentally unstable mother. Here the solo violin stands for loneliness and vulnerability, while the jazz part is about the father who is a well known jazz trumpet player. The clash of the two worlds creates an effect that I hope will be memorable to the listeners as well.” – Patrik Andrén
THE COMPOSER: Born in Sweden, Patrik Andrén began writing and playing keyboards in bands as a teen, then he moved to Boston to get a Film Scoring Degree at Berklee College of Music, moved back to Stockholm and spent a decade as a musician/keyboardist, produced and wrote for various pop acts, before his journey within film music commenced. He is a frequent collaborator of Johan Söderqvist with whom he worked on scores such as the Oscar-nominated Kon-Tiki, episodes of the Departement Q series like The Keeper of Lost Causes and The Absent One, as well as The King’s Choice, which was Norway’s official submission to that year’s Academy Awards – these latter scores have been released by MovieScore Media.
