Girl from the Past (Cô Gái Tu Quá Khú) (Christopher Wong, Ian Rees, Garrett Crosby)
Original score from the 2022 thriller feature film directed by Namcito and Bao Nhan, starring Ninh Duong Lan Ngoc and Kaity Nguyen, released by Warner Bros (Vietnam).
THE STORY: When wealthy socialite Ms. Q learns of her brother’s release from prison, she fears that the incarcerated sibling might pose a threat to her upcoming wedding – a helping hand offered by her sister may be the solution to her problem.
THE SCORE: “Girl from the Past is my sixth feature film collaboration with directors Namcito and Bao Nhan, and the first thriller we have worked on together. Although I have done thrillers in the past, what was interesting for me about this film is that it was very psychological and character driven; it didn’t rely on jump scares or sudden loud noises, it was more about finding the right mood and tone to set as the main character’s dark past slowly becomes unraveled in front of the audience.” – Christopher Wong
THE COMPOSER: Composer Christopher Wong has established himself as the go-to composer for the rising generation of Asian American directors. His first major credit was Journey from the Fall, the debut feature from director Ham Tran – the film received a standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival, while the score earned a nomination from the International Film Music Critics Association for Best New Composer of 2007. MovieScore Media has released Christopher’s scores for The Rebel, the romantic comedy How to Fight in Six Inch Heels and his last few collaborations with Victor Vu, including Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass, Loi Bao, The Immortal, Mat Biec, The Royal Bride, Camellia Sisters and The Guardian last year and the sci-fi Maika earlier this year.
