Nightshift (Oscar Fogelström)

MovieScore Media once again teams up with Oscar Fogelström, the composer of Aurora, to present his latest collaboration with Filipino filmmaker Yam Laranas. Nightshift stars Yam Concepcion as Jessie, a young woman stuck in the morgue on her first day due to a super typhoon. Working as an assistant to pathologist Dr. Alex (Michael de Mesa), she starts to notice that the dead begin to manifest signs of resurrection. Is she hallucinating, the victim of a cruel prank by her mentor or is there something more supernatural going on?

”For this particular project we were looking to get a modern ’noir’ feel,” explains Oscar about the score. ”The entire film has a sort of noir vibe, with a mystery that deepens the longer the film progresses, and gets more and more existentialist in a sense. The entire film and score is propelled forward by an unrelenting motion towards an inevitably bleak and gloomy end. The most prominent theme is the main theme which is introduced in the opening cue ‘Nightshift‘. This theme symbolises the protagonists search for the truth, and it gets more and more twisted as the mystery unfolds.”

Swedish composer Oscar Fogelström has been scoring movies and TV shows for the past 20 years. His clients include award winning movie directors, among them Lasse Hallström for whom he composed the score for Sweden’s entry for the Academy Awards 2013, The HypnotistNightshift marks his third collaboration with director Yam Laranas, following their work together on Abomination (2018), which was nominated for best score at the Sinag Maynila Film Festival. His latest release with the label was Aurora (2018), also directed by Yam Laranas. The soundtrack for Aurora won ”Best Overall Score 2018” at Reelmusic.com.
